[svn-r8239] Purpose: Brought back changes from 1.6 branch (small bug fix)
Description: Wrong datatype was used to calculate the size of data buffer
Solution: Used correct the datatype
Platforms tested: partially h5comittested (sol and verbena);
tested manually for sequential version on copper
