[svn-r16575] Description:
	Bring r16574 back from trunk:

        Clean up many compiler warnings and make test return non-zero exit code
when a failure is detected.

Tested on:
        FreeBSD/32 6.3 (duty) in debug mode
	(other platforms tested on trunk)
