[svn-r19234] Description:
Initialize loop variable that caused failures in certain circumstances.
Also clean up compiler warnings and release MPI datatype.
Tested on:
Linux/64-amd64 2.6 (abe) w/parallel, w/FORTRAN, in debug mode
