[svn-r20481] Description:
Bring r20480 from trunk to 1.8 branch:
Remove global variable for the path name in the group traversal code. Also
clean up a bunch of compiler warnings.
Tested on:
Mac OS X/32 10.6.7 (amazon) w/debug & production
