[svn-r28893] Merge of r28863, 28872, 28874, 28879, 28880, 28889 from revise_chunks.
Brings all recent changes from trunk/revise_chunks. autogen.sh -p run
on THG machines.
Tested on: 64-bit Ubuntu 15.10 (Linux 4.2.0 x86_64) gcc 5.2.1
