[svn-r23922] Add a new utility routine to traverse an entire path and open the last component:
 - update usage of the traversal routines through all server code

Update Link implementations to the changes made:
 - Handle Soft links in traversal
 - store soft link value in metadata

Comment out parts that require IOD to be present.
